Priceless Finds

Vintage PoochIn many circumstances good temperament, an incredible coat and immaculate behavior is associated with canines in dog shows.

I on the other hand was blessed with being able to adopt this beauty.

Olive was once a street dog, begging for food in the grimiest allies and now she has a lavish bed, top grade treats and pristine table manners.

Christmas Is Here!

Christmas Cocktail Party
Cider minus the whiskey ;)

This is another Urban Outfitters $10 Romper I found in the UO Basement in Cambridge. I'm wearing it in an earlier post under a flannel. I love it because you can dress it up and down. I wore it to work one day with thick black tights, dark gray moccasin boots and a bulky gray turtle neck sweater. You couldn't even tell it was a romper.

The earrings she is wearing are vintage Second Time Around for $7. I wear those waaay too much but now at least the holiday season has given me an excuse!

Romping Around Town

Urban Outfitters $10 Romper @ Cambridge Urban Basement

So this piece I got while roaming around Cambridge one night. I had $20 to spend and when I saw this, I knew I had to scoop it up!

I like it for many reasons, firstly it's jersey material (aka very forgiving!!) and it has that beautiful draping on the top and I love rompers in general because they are guaranteed to never allow those around you to sneak a peak at the frillies underneath ;)

I also like the idea of wearing it with really thick leggings and a big comfy sweater wrapped over it.

10 Dollars!! Seriously!

The Boxy Oxford

The Goodwill Button Down...3 dollars!

I love this button down. I wear it way too much. I think the fact that she is wearing it with attention getting earrings helps a lot. She is also wearing leggings and boots but you can't see them. I think a button down sweater vest would look nice over this especially if it is a little longer. This oxford is for a woman so it isn't that long and needs something to balance it out. A vest would also be nice and cozy for the winter.

The Slip Dress

She Dares to Walk out in a Silk Slip!

So, I am the queen of wearing nightgowns and slips as dresses. First off they are more flattering for every body type. They show off all the good curves. Secondly, they are way cheaper than dresses! Even at consignment shops! It's fantastic!
This slip is Victoria Secret vintage, $3 at Goodwill on Mass Ave. I absolutely love it. Syd is pairing it with a long brown sweater from TJ Maxx (thanks to mamasita).

I also think it would look beautiful with a fitted blazer, tights and black boots. This outfit above would also look gorgeous with beat-up old boots for a casual day out and about.

Holiday Vest & Zippers

My Beautiful Sister Modeling a Mash of Forever 21 and Local Church Thrift

So, the zipper ring which Syd has so strategically placed on her middle finger was $3.50 at Forever 21 and the plaid vest is Gap vintage found on a rack at St. Matthews Church Thrift Store open Saturdays and Tuesdays 8-11am. I don't recall the exact amount but it wasn't more than 3 dollars. I love that place!

Anyways, the vest here is worn over a graphic tee but I think it would look really pretty arranged a few ways...
over a white slip/dress in the summer
over a black thin strapped dress with black tights and boots in the winter
over a white tank top and paired with lighter jeans or cut offs

Five Dollar Fall: Goodwill in Boston Week 3 and 4 (cont'd)

Item 1 on Carolyn
Item 2 on Carolyn
Item 3 on Ariana
Item 4 on Ariana
Item 5 on Mary Kate
Item 6 on Mary Kate

Item 1: Tweed looking, cotton pullover in Brown
This is so comfortable and looks amazing with Carolyn's skinny ankle jeans and gray flats. Its a perfect fall staple and so great for that day you want to just throw something on that ISN'T a sweatshirt.

Item 2: White Linen Tunic
This is actually a banana republic piece and Carolyn is wearing it with short shorts and big earrings. This is more of a summery look but If you paired it with fitted pants and a pashmina it would work perfectly in the fall.

Item 3: Leopard Buttondown PJ Top
I love this! I actually wore it out as a shirt a few days ago with black skinny jeans and bright red flats. Ariana is wearing it with a fitted black dress, a thin black belt and her fabulous vintage earrings (I am obsessed with them!) When I first pulled this out everyone was a bit skeptical but once Ariana was all styled up the girls all agreed they'd wear it.

Item 4: Small Wool Vest in Brown
I thought about having Ariana wear something under this but I like it on its own because it is somewhat fitted and could be worn out at night with skinny jeans, funky earrings, moccasins or maybe even heels. You could even wear it under a blazer or a regular coat.

Item 5: Wool sweater with tie front
I love this sweater because its neutral and can work with many different outfits but it also has a funky tie at the neck that gives it an edgier look. Mary Kate is pairing this with black leggings, leopard flats and pearl/gold costumey clip-ons from my obscene collection of clip on earrings. She looks gorgeous even when she's knocking over lamps in the background!

Item 6: Black Rosebud Top
This is a beautiful top and looked good on everyone that tried it. Mary Kate is wearing it with all black and no cover-up but because it is such a thin fabric, it can be worn with basically anything over it. This is a great night out shirt as well!

I HAVE 6 MORE OUTFITS COMING UP WITH MORE BEAUTIFUL MODELS SO STAY POSTED!

Five Dollar Fall: Goodwill in Boston Week 3 and 4

Item 1 on Alissa
Item 2 on Kim
Item 3 on Kim
starving model pose...eat something!
Item 4 on Alissa
Item 5 on Ariana

Item 6 on Angela
All of these pieces were $4.99 at Goodwill on Commonwealth in Boston. My lovely friends are modeling everything for me. The accessories and clothing paired with the pieces were from their personal wardrobes.

Item 1 on Alissa: Tie-Dye/Crochet top
Because this is such a vibrant piece, there isn't need for too many accessories. We just added a pair of saucer earrings (cheap thrift as well from a while back: Savers if I remember correctly) and it was perfect.

Item 2 on Kim: Blue flower print strapless dress
We added a long black sweater to this piece to tone down the pattern and make it more season appropriate. I think this dress with a tailored black blazer would work wonders as well.

The dress was a bit big on Kim but it had little belt holes around the middle, so I just took a ribbon and cinched the two belt holes in the back to bring it in at her waist a little better. Dresses are hard to find in the perfect size but it's always pretty easy to manipulate them with belts and ribbons and such.

Item 3 on Kim: Quilted blue jersey fabric jacket
Alright, this came with shoulder pads but I cut them out before any of the girls could see and judge. hah. Because this is such a retro jacket, it would be best to wear it with a solid color underneath. I would recommend black or maybe white. Though I shot it in the daytime outside, I think it would be best worn for a night out on the town. It also would look fabulous with some big costumey earrings and a big gold/black/white clutch.

Item 4 on Alissa: Denim Oxford
I love this shirt, its very androgynous in the best of ways. I think people are scared to rock denim on top because it seems a bit 'butch'....well its not but I must say it took some major convincing to lure my lovely Alissa into this piece.

Denim tops look great with tight black pants because it evens out the balance between loose and fitted. Also, blue is such a complimentary color with most complexions so it's hard to go wrong. I think everyone should at least try this look out, why not.

Item 5 on Ariana: Flowered Denim Oxford
This is definitely a one of a kind top. It has a little more of a girly edge to it compared to that of other denim oxfords.

Like Alissa's shirt, it looks good with tight black pants and though you can't see it in these pictures, Ariana is wearing big white flowery earrings which add a little more glam to the whole outfit.

Item 6 on Angela: Silk Plaid Blouse
I had to cut the shoulder pads out of this and it was well worth it. Flannel is such a popular look these days and this shirt adds a more formal/dressy feel to the trend. The top of the shirt you can tie into a bow but we tried it and Angela looked a bit like a school teacher (a sexy one of course) but it didn't work as well so we kept it untied.

Also, because Angela is so tiny, she was getting lost in the blouse so I added a thick belt at the waist to give her some shape. The boots and jeans she was wearing beforehand and we thought it worked perfectly with the outfit. Gives it a very Ralph look.

3 Dollar Shopping Spree: Garmet District Boston, MA

Pair-eeeeee Clutch

High Waisted Shorts

Lumber Jack Flannel...Making its Appearance at Babson: Thank You Ariana!! xxo

The Big Red Dress

Striped T-Shirt

Alright, so the Garmet District is a massive thrift store right outside of Cambridge, MA on Broadway. On the first floor there is one section with all costumes (very popular right before Halloween) and in another room there is a floor covered about two feet deep in used clothing. When you go in here you get a giant plastic bag and you can sift through all of the stuff. Once you have gathered everything that you like, the employees weigh the bag and you pay 1 dollar for each pound of clothes. For these five items, I paid three dollars!! Ah! So amazing and I love them all!
The Clutch
The clutch has been an everyday item for me and it can be seen in a few of the pictures below it. I have been searching far and wide for a neutral colored wallet/pouch but haven't wanted to pay an obscene amount of money, so when I found this lovely little piece you can imagine my excitement!
High Waisted Shorts
I loved these because I feel like every time I go into an urban outfitters or some boutiquey store that's trying to be edgy, they always have pieces like this and I want to vomit when I look at the price tag.
High-waisted shorts and pants are always at thrift stores cause they are straight out of the 80's and every mother I know owned at least one pair of these at a time. It doesn't matter if they fit perfectly or not, as long as you have a good belt you can cinch them in and make it work. I would also wear these shorts with a white tank top and a black/gray sweater.
Flannel Shirt
I took these pictures from my fabulous friend! This is the most comfy flannel and I love the red! Luckily I found this one in my size but even the oversized ones can look cute over leggings or a solid color dress.
Flannels in general are another item that you should never buy at retail price. The most unique ones are always at consignment shops!
Red Dress
Ohh the red dress. I was attracted to this in the pile because of its color and the fact that its silk. It is definitely waaay too big for me but I still absolutely adore it! I took a navy blue sash and belted it at the waist and vooooila I have a waist! I had to cut shoulder pads out of this one as well but it was worth it.
The only thing I may alter on it are the buttons. I want to find some funky jewel buttons to give it a more antique look.
The Striped Shirt
This is my comfy shirt! I have been wearing it all the time because I love the pattern and how its kind of big so I don't have to reveal a lot. It actually an old Calvin Klein piece. I think it will look very sweet in the summer with shorts or over a bathing suit.

Week 2 Salvation Army Newport, RI

Blue Jean Baby

Item: Blue Jean Mini Dress
Price: $5.99
Designer: Jeewan Designs
Description: Blue jean mini dress, thin straps, decorative thread and sequin work on the front Thoughts: To be honest, when I saw this on the rack, at first glance it looked like an altered pillowcase for an unhappy backwoods hippy but I thought I would give it a try. What do you think? I wore it out in Newport and got so many compliments. People kept asking me where I got it and when I said I found it while rummaging through salvation army, people were shocked. Everyone wanted to know if I had washed it yet. haha. Not a chance.

My Essentials Used: Aviator Sunglasses, Thin Belt used to accentuate waist, neutral sandals, saddle bag (also found during one of my adventures dumpster diving)

The Perfect Summer Sweater
Image 1 Image 2

Image 3

Item: Sweater Tank Top
Price: $1.99
Designer: Unknown Description: Spaghetti strap, wool, fuchsia colored, small torso
Thoughts: When I saw this in the "blouse" section I fell in love. Because it is a pretty small tank top I knew it wouldn't be the best thing to wear when frolicking about town but for a daytime, over your bathing suit top it is great. For going out, I think that the best way to do it, is to pair it with a long sweater or oxford shirt. The color of the wool is absolutely gorgeous and the perfect example of the type of gems one can find in the thrift store. Though this shirt may not be found anywhere else, there are many other ones around, you just have to search. If you do, you are sure to find some fabulous camisoles you just have to be creative with what you pair it with and a little bit shameless when going out. Sometimes its a hit, other times a miss but at least you will always be interesting!
My Essentials Used: In image 1; skinny jeans(I like white with the fuchsia but black or jean could absolutely work with this outfit too), oxford shirt (in this picture I went for a jean oxford but a white, black, blue, striped, etc oxford would work beautifully as well). In image 2; because there are no patterns in the shirt I thought that a funky leopard ensemble would be perfect. In the photo, I am wearing my favorite leopard wedges, white jeans (this outfit would also work wonderfully with black skinnies), a long black sweater, a leopard clutch (Marshall's for 9 bucks! Not bad). For image 3; classic cutoffs ( just take old jeans you don't wear, cut them a little longer than normal and throw them in the washer and dryer a few times. Never buy cutoffs! total wanker move.

Alright, so last week I wore the Yellow Silk Shirt to Dinner and my boyrfriend and I were not on the same page with it. He told me that he was just picturing the type of person who wore it before me(shoulder pads and all). Put a damper on the meal...for him at least.

Week 1 Salvation Army Newport, RI

80's Yellow Silk Shirt

When I saw this I laughed because it looks completely horrendous on the rack and made me think of shoulder pads and crimped hair. But the color really stood out for me and the more I looked at it I realized that there were so many ways to camouflage it's 80's inspired past. This is the type of piece that can be found in ANY thrift store in the "blouse" section. It is a consignment shop staple. you are bound to find one like it and next time you do...give it a second glance ;)

Image 3

Item: Short sleeve blouse
Price: $3.09
Designer: White Moon London
Description: Bright yellow button down, shoulder pads(I cut these out right away!), decorative yellow threading around the buttons.
Thoughts: Because this is such an attention getting shirt, there is no need to bring anymore attention with other obnoxious pieces. The best thing to do is to keep other colors neutral. Also, first order of business...when you buy these old blouses they are bound to come with shoulder pads. CUT THEM OUT! Everyone has perfect shoulders, no need to enhance them with those bizarre foam objects.

My Essentials Used: In image one; white skinny jeans and neutral sandals. In image two; white shorts (other non patterned colored shorts would work fine), neutral sandals again, plain everyday clutch. In image three; my favorite jeans, everyday clutch and neutral sandals.

Short Sleeve Dress

I have worn this outfit more than you can imagine! On the rack it looks like a completely tacky mumu type cover up (the name of the brand Rum Reggae sums it up). If I didn't have a belt to cinch it in at the waist, it would be a no go.

Item: T-Shirt Dress
Price: $3.99
Designer: Rum Reggae
Description: Short sleeve shift, palm leaf print, turquoise, purple and cream colored
Thoughts: This is like any over sized t-shirt. If you have a fun design and a belt that can cinch you at the waist you are set. It gives you an effortless hourglass shape without having to squeeze into a bandage dress. This dress was definitely not meant for a 21 year old girl but who cares, it works!

My Essentials Used: Thin belt and neutral sandals. That is about all you need!
