The Classic Oxford

(Oxford Shirt $3 Goodwill)

I am a firm believer in the classic oxford shirt. While some of my looks come and go, I can honestly say that the oversized button-down is one that has been with me since entering middle school. Lately I have being going overboard with this particular shirt but I absolutely love it!

Second Time Around Fashion Show

Boston Fashion Week 2010

Photos Above Courtesy of Nina of
Fox and Bullock

Last night I had the pleasure of being invited to the Second Time Around Fashion Show at the W Hotel Boston, MA. I came to the city in the afternoon with a jacket, heels and a goal to find the rest of my outfit for dirt cheap that afternoon. I lucked out at the Garment District and found a sweater knit skirt and funky dangly earrings and a scarf from Nina's closet (bill =$12)…the rest is history.

It was a great event with a fall theme that captured lots of sequins, military inspired jackets, strappy sandals, big graphic tees and gold hue dresses. Nina(who took the amazing pictures above!) and I spent the evening sipping St. Germain cocktails and finding inspiration in many of the looks strutting down the runway.

SOWA

After a long (and wonderful) weekend I was rushing home to the island to meet some friends for dinner but couldn’t help but quickly breeze through the SOWA market in Boston’s South End before dedicating my eyes to the road. I spanned the perimeter quickly but was still able to capture some beautiful shots of some of the talented artisans presenting their work.
Here are some shots of my favorite things...

Daylynn Richards of Nevermore reminded me of being young and finding little trinkets outside in the yard and creating an eerie story around it. Her work was amazing and I have to go back and find more of it. She had this whole forgotten fairytale element around each piece...like it would bring you to some dark place.

I was very excited to run into my friend Nicole of Fidget Finds at SOWA. I always see her adventures online but was unable to make it to the booth. Last summer I had the pleasure of having a little apartment above her store so my vintage cravings were always satisfied by walking downstairs. I am planning on doing a little piece on her in my blog so make sure to keep reading!
I couldn't leave empty handed! A token of my adventure was this amazing clutch from Thailand. Only 12 bucks (Abbey you would be proud). I love the colors and it checks off another item on my August Wish List!

Shadow Hues

I love morning light. It always hits objects in a special way...like there is some sort of extraordinary quality that is unknown to the onlooker (a lamp that dances when nobody is looking or a dried flower that organizes its petals ;)

Shirt (Church Thrift $1), Vest (DIY Here), Earrings (Grandolly's)

Hope you have been liking my denim kick...it is an ode to a friend that just started a blog dedicated to the denim trend Bleu Denim. check it out!

Vagabond

I am bringing this to the tailor today to get it hemmed to right above my knees. Though I love this look it is a little much to be traipsing around Jamestown and Newport with a denim train flowing behind me.

Denim dress/jacket (Church Thrift $2), Dress (Free People), Sunglasses (Vintage Versace), Wedges (J. Jill Sale)

Also, this dress was bought at Free People in Boston on sale in the beginning of the summer. I got it in White and Navy and it has been a joke all summer because I haven't worn much else. It isn't allowed in the dryer for fear of wear and tear.

Check out how versatile it is here, here, here and here....and these are only the instances that were documented.

Tourist

Giving Jimmy Buffet a run for his money...

Hawaiian Shirt (church thrift $1)

I know summer is over and I am very excited for fall but when I was thrifting this weekend, I couldn't help but take home this little number. It is the first Hawaiian shirt I have ever found that actually fits me!

Inspire Me

Oh precious boredom.
I can't even begin to explain my elation towards this day...I have managed to find the extraordinary in the ordinary and bring inanimate objects to life!

flying dog

vintage Lilly Pulitzer I found at the Church Thrift store for $2!! I can't really pull off the Lilly look anymore so I may have to come up with some alternatives...

Red All Over

Blanket Wrap (LF Sale)
Dress (Free People Sale)
Plaid Tote (Coach at Second Time Around)

If you've read any of my blogs in the past, you will know that I have quite a fixation with plaid, madras, and gingham patterns. Basically anything having to do with calculated little lines spanning a piece of fabric is up my alley. And, if you didn't know already...my all time favorite color is red. I tend to have withdrawals if I paint my nails anything but.

So...you can imagine my excitement when putting together this little ensemble.

The blanket wrap I got it at LF during one of the 75% off sales (the only time I ever shop at LF). I wore it to work one day and actually tried to belt it like a draped skirt over a white dress and it didn't look bad! The shoulder bag I found at Second Time Around in Providence when dropping off some consignment. It is the perfect tote and keeps all my notepads and books very organized (Wish List item number 6).

Labor Day

Linen Shirt (Garment District)
Jean Shorts (my own creation)
Moccasins (Minnetonka found at Marshalls)
Earring (DIY with old shell)

Off to work! Have a wonderful Monday everyone!

I am so into linen these days. I have always been a fan of the oversized shirt look but most of them are so structured that they make me look like a linebacker. With linen it drapes so beautifully on the body and doesn’t let your curves get lost underneath. I feel like this one throws a fall spin on things with its coral hue. Opinions?

Also, hope everyone has had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Mine was not the most festive unfortunately. Suffering from a head cold, I was praying that Earl may cover my hermit tracks; unfortunately that was not the case.

Bittersweet

A few of my favorite things...
Paddling (Salvation Army wool tank $4)
Early Mornings at Second Beach
Jazz Festival at Fort Adams
Narragansett Bay at dusk
Calculated Risk...the VERY loved and worn J24
Folk Festival at Fort Adams
my beautiful sister Sydney and I paddling around the harbor

September 1st...I never think it is going to come as I'm lazily lounging on the dock staring out onto Narragansett Bay. Maybe with September will come a more structured schedule and a less lackadaisical take on life.

I must say I am quite excited for another New England fall with crunchy leaves, hay rides and lots and lots of layers (but I'm definitely not putting away the water toys quite yet).

Now that I am a graduate with no nine to five to worry about at the moment, I plan on filling this fall up with many fabulous adventures and creative endeavors.

I promise to document much more than I have this summer.
